On Monday December 23, 2013, just days after the Senate passed the
NDAA for Fiscal Year 2014; activists from around the globe will partake
in a Twitter hashtag storm; #ImpeachTheGovernment. At 6 p.m. Pacific
Time, over 600 activists will begin to launch the posts with that very hasthtag, where it is likely to grow and trend.
The NDAA, otherwise known as the National Defense Authorization Act has been around for many years. There have been 51 consecutive signings
of the NDAA, all of which are budget related to military operations.
However, with the recent signing statements made popular by Bush Jr. –
President Obama over the past few years has added several provisions
which legalize indefinite detention, torture, and even the assassination
of American citizens.
The effort is being launched by a popular Alternative News Facebook page and website The Anti-Media, which has over 180,000 Likes on Facebook.
Nick Bernabe, a San Diego based activist, is one of the individuals who came up with the idea for the Twitter storm after the recent overwhelming majority of votes in the ‘yea’ column, which sent the NDAA to the president’s desk.
I asked Nick why he thought people should get involved in the Internet
action tonight, and he said “We’re doing this Twitter storm to get a
mass amount of people to know about the NDAA which has been ignored by
the mainstream. The NDAA contains unconstitutional provisions which
allow the government to indefinitely detain us citizens without charge or trial.”
He then added “many people are tired of the government and this Twitter storm is their chance to let the world know.”

“All attackers, who had military uniforms on, were killed.”
The parking lot was run by a private company and used by the US military for vehicles waiting to exit Afghanistan, he said.
NATO shipments through Torkham are currently suspended after Pakistani activists opposed to US drone raids forcibly searched trucks and threatened drivers.
A Taleban statement said their fighters had torched more than 30 US military vehicles on Wednesday.
Militants on both sides of the Afghan border frequently target NATO supply lines, forcing NATO to shift towards alternative routes via Central Asian countries.

Six US soldiers killed in Afghan helicopter crash
Six US troops in Afghanistan were killed and one wounded in a helicopter crash Tuesday, but it was unclear if Taliban fire caused any of the casualties after the chopper went down.
Military officials said insurgents did not shoot
down the UH-60 Blackhawk, but they were investigating whether any of the US troops were
killed by gunfire from Taliban militants after the crash.
The Afghan insurgents immediately claimed
responsibility for the deaths, using their main Twitter account to report that
their fighters had shot down the US
chopper in the southern province
of Zabul.
The incident was the single biggest loss of life
for the NATO missi
on in Afghanistan
since seven Georgian soldiers died when a suicide bomber blew up a truck loaded
with explosives outside a base in Helmand
province in June.
"Six International Security Assistance Force
(ISAF) service members died following an aircraft crash in southern Afghanistan
today," an ISAF statement said.
"The cause of the crash is under
investigation, however initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity
in the area at the time of the crash."
Defence officials in Washington
told AFP the fatalities were US
troops riding in a Blackhawk aircraft.
"I can confirm six Americans were
killed," said one official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
An investigation was underway to determine
"the cause of engine failure," the official said.
Although there was no insurgent fire on the
aircraft before the Blackhawk crashed, "once it was down, there was enemy
fire," said a US
military officer, who asked not to be named.
The Taliban Twitter account, under the name
Abdulqahar Balkhi, said the helicopter was brought down on Tuesday afternoon
while flying low over the district of Shah Joy in Zabul.
"(The) chopper crashed in (a) ball of
flame... killing all 8 invaders aboard," the account said.
The Taliban regularly make unsubstantiated claims
of attacks on NATO and Afghan forces and also exaggerate casualty numbers in
proven strikes.
Provincial officials confirmed the incident in
Zabul, a restive province bordering on Helmand and neighbouring Pakistan.
"I can confirm a helicopter crashed in Shah
Joy district this afternoon, but we don't have any information about the
casualties or the cause of the hard landing," Mohammad Jan Rasolyar,
deputy governor of Zabul province, told AFP.
Local officials said ISAF and Afghan forces
rushed to the scene of the crash and were still on patrol around the site when
darkness fell.
Aircraft crashes are fairly frequent in Afghanistan,
where the 75,000-strong international mission relies heavily on air transport
as it battles the insurgency alongside Afghan forces who now take the lead in
most military operations.
The last fatal helicopter incident for US forces
occurred in April, when an Apache chopper went down in eastern Afghanistan,
claiming the lives of two American troops.
Five US
troops also died in the southern province
of Kandahar in March when
their helicopter came down during a heavy rainstorm.
Before Tuesday's crash, there had been 149 NATO
fatalities in Afghanistan
this year, 119 of them US
soldiers, according to the independent icasualties website.
The annual total peaked in 2010, when 711 NATO
troops died.
NATO combat operations in Afghanistan are
due to end next year, and coalition commanders say the local army and police
have made enough progress to provide general security and keep the Taliban at
bay.
There are currently 42,700 US troops deployed in Afghanistan as
part of the NATO-led force that is due to withdraw by the end of 2014.
A small US-led contingent is due to stay in the
country pending the signature of a security agreement between Washington
and Kabul.

The Price Tag of This Year’s Obama Family Christmas Vacation

As always, the Obama family vacations come with a high price tag, and you, of course, are footing the bill if you happen to be a taxpayer.
They have returned to Hawaii for this year’s Christmas extravaganza,
and the conservative estimate for the vacation is $4 million – more than
most of us will earn in a lifetime for a two-week respite for the
President and his family.
Even the Obama family dog is getting a nicer Christmas vacation than most Americans. Meanwhile, for poverty-stricken Americans, fights are breaking out at Salvation Army as people slug it out over donated toys to put under the tree for their children, food banks are strapped as they try to provide holiday dinners for the poor, many of whom have lost their jobs to Obamacare, and more and
more people have become classified as “the working poor” as they
struggle to keep the utilities on and their children fed and clothed.
Well, if they have no bread, then let them eat cake, because the Obamas need a vacation. It’s hard work, stomping on the flag, destroying the Constitution, and dragging down the little guy.
Lest you think we are paying the entire tab, you’ll be delighted to
know that the President and his cronies pay the $25,000 per week rent on
the house that the First Family resides in while in the tropical
paradise. Sadly, this gesture of fairness is a drop in the bucket when
compared to the taxpayer’s portion of the vacation bill.
Some figures have not been released, citing security concerns, but the Hawaii Reporter has estimated the tab:
Michael Tasselmyer of the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, estimates the 18-hour roundtrip aboard Air Force One, which he said costs $179,750 per hour for flight and operation, will total $3,235,500 for the roundtrip. A Congressional Research Service report released in May 2012 matches that figure.
There are reports the President might also stop on the island of Maui, a 30-minute flight from Oahu, which would add additional expense.
The cost for USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii has never been disclosed, but the roundtrip flight time between Andrews Air Force Base and Hawaii is 21.5 hours, with estimated operating cost of $12,000 per hour. The U.S. Marine Corps provides a presidential helicopter, along with pilots and support crews for the test flights, which travel on another C-17 flight. That is $258,000, not including costs for the 4-to-6-member crew’s per diem and hotel.
U.S. Secret Service, Navy Seals and Coast Guard rent homes along the canal and ocean for $250 per room per night, according to residents renting their homes. Real estate source said the delegation rents at least 7 homes in the area, and arrive ahead of the President, costing taxpayers more than $183,750 for the length of the visit.
White House staff who do not stay in Kailua secure hotel rooms at the posh Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa on Waikiki Beach. Hotel rooms typically rent for $670 a night, but the hotel offers discounted government rates for about $255 per night, according to hotel public relations manager Diana Su. The hotel does not disclose information about The White House visit. However, estimating prices for room, as well as Transient Accommodation Tax and General Excise Tax, for about two dozen staff, totals more than $100,000. The President is accompanied by 22 vehicles, whether he goes golfing and to a basketball game with friends at his Punahou alma mater or to body surf at Sandy Beach and local favorite restaurants such as Nobu’s and Buzz’s Steakhouse.
Honolulu Police are on special duty, paid $250,000 by city taxpayers, and another $10,000 is spent on around-the-clock ambulance detail.
There are several costs the White House annually refuses to release, citing security
- For example, The White House rents an entire floor of an office building in Kailua on the canal during the President’s stay.
- Security upgrades, such as bulletproof glass, and additional phone lines, are added to private homes, while existing security systems are disabled.
- Rental cars and fuel for staff and security, as well as additional travel costs Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President, are kept secret.
The White House has not released expenses, citing security concerns. However, the most conservative estimate, based on what is known, for a 17-day vacation in Hawaii for the President and his family and staff and security is more than $4 million. (source)
Meanwhile, disabled veterans who make less than $10,000 per year
are having to take a 1% cut in their pensions. So with only the
estimated cost of the extravagant holiday, approximately 40,000 men and
women who served the country for real, could have their pensions
untouched.
But clearly, the President doesn’t care about those veterans or about the people who are doing without this year
due to his poverty-inducing “healthcare” policy. He and his family have
left the mansion in which they live and are getting their beachside
vacation in a tropical paradise, with their entourage in tow, and that
is clearly all that matters.

yang berperang melawan milisi Taliban di Afghanistan meninggal ketika
helikopter yang mereka tumpangi jatuh pada Selasa.
Para pejabat NATO mengatakan kecelakaan itu bukan akibat dari serangan militan.
Namun Taliban segera menyatakan bertanggung jawab atas kematian itu.
Dalam informasi lewat Twitternya, kelompok itu menyatakan bahwa para pejuangnya telah menembak jatuh satu helikopter AS di Provinsi Zabul.
Insiden itu yang menimpa anggota misi NATO di Afghanistan merupakan kehilangan terbesar sejak tujuh tentara Georgia meninggal ketika seorang pembom bunuh diri meledakkan truk berisi bahan peledak di luar satu pangkalan di Provinsi Helmand pada Juni.
"Enam anggota Pasukan Bantuan Keamanan Internasional (ISAF) meninggal dalam kecelakaan pesawat di bagian selatan Afghanistan hari ini," demikian bunyi pernyataan ISAF, yang tak menyebutkan kebangsaan para korban.
"Penyebab jatuhnya pesawat sedang diselidiki, namun laporan awal menunjukkan tak ada kegiatan musuh di kawasan itu pada saat pesawat jatuh. Ini kebijakan ISAF menunda prosedur identifikasi korban kepada penguasa nasional yang terkait."
Info Twitter Taliban, dengan nama Abdulqahar Balkhi, menyebutkan helikopter itu ditembak jatuh pada Selasa sore ketika terbang rendah di atas Distrik Shah Joy di Zabul.
"Helikopter itu jatuh dan terbakar... seluruh delapan penyerbu di dalamnya meninggal," menurut info itu.
Taliban secara teratur membuat klaim bahwa pihaknya melakukan serangan-serangan atas pasukan NATO dan Afghanistan dan juga melebih-lebihkan jumlah korban.
Para pejabat provinsi tak dapat segera memberi konfirmasi penyebab kecelakaan di Zabul, satu provinsi bergolak yang berbatasan dengan Helmand dan Pakistan, negara tetangganya.
"Saya dapat membenarkan satu helikopter jatuh di Distrik Shah Joy siang ini tetapi kami tidak punya informasi tentang para korban atau penyebab kecelakaan itu," kata Mohammad Jan Rasolyar, wakil gubernur Provinsi Zabul, kepada kantor berita Prancis AFP.
Para pejabat setempat mengatakan pasukan ISAF dan Afghanistan segera ke tempat jatuhnya helikopter dan masih berpatroli di sekitar kawasan itu walaupun malam telah tiba.

Afghanistan menembak mati tiga tentara yang dipimpin NATO pada Sabtu di
bagian timur negara yang dilanda perang itu, kata koalisi.
Dengan demikian, apa yang disebut "serangan orang dalam", di mana pasukan Afghanistan mengarahkan senjata mereka kepada mitra asing mereka, telah membunuh puluhan tentara asing di Afghanistan, menimbulkan ketidakpercayaan sengit dan mengancam untuk menggagalkan pelatihan pasukan lokal untuk mengambil alih tugas keamanan menjelang penarikan NATO tahun depan.

(ANTARA News) - Presiden Iran Hassan Rouhani, Minggu (8/12), mengatakan
negaranya menentang kehadiran pasukan asing di wilayah tersebut.
"Republik Islam Iran menentang kehadiran setiap pasukan asing di wilayah mana pun di Timur Tengah dan Teluk," kata Rouhani dalam pertemuan dengan Presiden Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, yang sedang berkunjung di Ibu Kota Iran, Teheran.
"Kami khawatir dengan ketegangan yang terus terjadi akibat kehadiran pasukan asing dan percaya semua pasukan asing mesti meninggalkan wilayah ini," kata Rouhani sebagaimana dilaporkan Xinhua. Ia menambahkan, "Keamanan Afghanistan mesti disediakan oleh rakyat Afghanistan."
Pernyataan dari Presiden Iran tersebut dikeluarkan saat Afghanistan dan Amerika Serikat bersiap menandatangani Kesepakatan Keamanan Bilateral (BSA) guna memfasilitasi kehadiran sejumlah terbatas pasukan AS di Afghanistan, setelah penarikan pasukan pimpinan NATO pada 2014 dari negeri itu.
Sementara itu, Karzai mengucapkan selamat kepada Presiden Iran tersebut mengenai kesepakatan nuklir yang dicapai oleh Iran dan negara besar dunia di Jenewa, Swiss, pada November. Karzai mengatakan Iran dan Afghanistan memiliki banyak kepentingan yang sama.
Menurut kantor berita ISNA, Rouhani dan Karzai mengeluarkan pernyataan bersama sementara Kementerian Luar Negeri Iran dan Afghanistan diberi tugas untuk mempersiapkan dokumen Kesepakatan Menyeluruh mengenai Kerja Sama Persahabatan antara kedua negara.
Kesepakatan itu akan meliputi kepentingan lama Iran dan Afghanistan dalam mempersiapkan perdamaian dan keamanan di wilayah tersebut, kata laporan itu.
"Kami akan memulai pembicaraan bagi penandatanganan kesepakatan tersebut dalam waktu dekat dan saya yakin rakyat Afghanistan akan menyambut baik kesepakatan ini," kata Karzai sebagaimana dikutip.
Presiden Afghanistan tersebut tiba di Teheran pada Minggu untuk mengadakan pembicaraan penting dengan Rouhani dan Menteri Luar Negeri Iran Mohammad-Javad Zarif.

Kecelakaan helikopter di Afghanistan, enam tentara NATO tewas

Para pejabat NATO mengatakan kecelakaan itu bukan akibat dari serangan militan.
Namun Taliban segera menyatakan bertanggung jawab atas kematian itu.
Dalam informasi lewat Twitternya, kelompok itu menyatakan bahwa para pejuangnya telah menembak jatuh satu helikopter AS di Provinsi Zabul.
Insiden itu yang menimpa anggota misi NATO di Afghanistan merupakan kehilangan terbesar sejak tujuh tentara Georgia meninggal ketika seorang pembom bunuh diri meledakkan truk berisi bahan peledak di luar satu pangkalan di Provinsi Helmand pada Juni.
"Enam anggota Pasukan Bantuan Keamanan Internasional (ISAF) meninggal dalam kecelakaan pesawat di bagian selatan Afghanistan hari ini," demikian bunyi pernyataan ISAF, yang tak menyebutkan kebangsaan para korban.
"Penyebab jatuhnya pesawat sedang diselidiki, namun laporan awal menunjukkan tak ada kegiatan musuh di kawasan itu pada saat pesawat jatuh. Ini kebijakan ISAF menunda prosedur identifikasi korban kepada penguasa nasional yang terkait."
Info Twitter Taliban, dengan nama Abdulqahar Balkhi, menyebutkan helikopter itu ditembak jatuh pada Selasa sore ketika terbang rendah di atas Distrik Shah Joy di Zabul.
"Helikopter itu jatuh dan terbakar... seluruh delapan penyerbu di dalamnya meninggal," menurut info itu.
Taliban secara teratur membuat klaim bahwa pihaknya melakukan serangan-serangan atas pasukan NATO dan Afghanistan dan juga melebih-lebihkan jumlah korban.
Para pejabat provinsi tak dapat segera memberi konfirmasi penyebab kecelakaan di Zabul, satu provinsi bergolak yang berbatasan dengan Helmand dan Pakistan, negara tetangganya.
"Saya dapat membenarkan satu helikopter jatuh di Distrik Shah Joy siang ini tetapi kami tidak punya informasi tentang para korban atau penyebab kecelakaan itu," kata Mohammad Jan Rasolyar, wakil gubernur Provinsi Zabul, kepada kantor berita Prancis AFP.
Para pejabat setempat mengatakan pasukan ISAF dan Afghanistan segera ke tempat jatuhnya helikopter dan masih berpatroli di sekitar kawasan itu walaupun malam telah tiba.
Sejumlah pesawat jatuh di Afghanistan tempat misi internasional berkekuatan 75.000 orang bergantung banyak pada angkutan udara ketima bertempur bersama-sama pasukan Afghanistan melawan pemberontak.
Sekarang pasukan Afghanistan memimpin di sebagian besar operasi militer.
Pada April, dua helikopter jatuh dan enam orang tentara NATO tewas sementara lima tentara AS meninggal di Provinsi Kandahar, di bagian selatan Aghanistan pada Maret ketika helikopter mereka jatuh akibat badai dan hujan lebat.
Tahun ini sebanyak 149 tentara NATO, 119 di antaranya dari AS tercatat meninggal di Afghanistan, demikian AFP.

We’ve seen so many police abuse lawsuits
settled before making it to trial where cops admit no wrongdoing while
guiltily dishing out thousands of taxpayer dollars that it’s surprising to see one actually make it to trial.
And it’s absolutely flabbergasting to see it result in a cop ordered personably liable.
The cop is none other than Sterling Wheaton of the Atlantic City Police Department, whom we became familiar with back in September when he drove up to a group of five fellow officers beating on a suspect and sicced his dog on him in an incident caught on surveillance video.
Then we later learned that Wheaton was
already named a defendant in three unrelated lawsuits alleging abuse
over the five previous years, including one where he is accused of ripping the phone out of the hands of woman recording him, only for her never to see the phone again.
Now we are learning that another of those three lawsuits involved him beating up a prosecutor
from the state attorney’s office nonetheless, which is probably the
last person you want to beat up if you’re one of these asshole cops like
Wheaton who think they can do whatever they want.
A jury awarded Michael Troso $500,000, half which the city must pay, the other half which Wheaton must pay, who incredulously, is still employed by the Atlantic City Police Department, despite the liability he has proven to be.
He still has three pending lawsuits, including the latest one from the video below.
According to the Press of Atlantic City:
Michael Troso was a deputy state attorney general when he was arrested at the Trump Marina Restaurant on Aug. 19, 2008. Troso charged that he was beaten by the officers and falsely arrested the night of his bachelor party.
As a result of the charges, Troso lost his job and had a shadow cast over his wedding, attorney William Buckman said.
Wheaten must pay half of the award, or $250,000 in compensatory damages. The jury found he did not owe punitive damages, which are assessed to punish a defendant.
The city is responsible for the other half.
Treso is a now a DUI attorney,
And Wheaten is somehow still a cop, despite the numerous internal
affairs investigations that have gone nowhere and the constant
lawsuits, not to mention the fact that he was on a list in 2010 of cops
who were on the verge of getting laid off, back when he was making $64,000 -a-year.
For a city that was considering laying off 40 police officers
to help meet a budget deficit of more than $10 million, they sure as
hell are not doing themselves any favors by keeping Wheaten on the payroll.
And now that he needs to pay Troso $250,000, we can certain he will be working all the overtime he can get.
So we’ll probably be hearing from him again.

Dengan demikian, apa yang disebut "serangan orang dalam", di mana pasukan Afghanistan mengarahkan senjata mereka kepada mitra asing mereka, telah membunuh puluhan tentara asing di Afghanistan, menimbulkan ketidakpercayaan sengit dan mengancam untuk menggagalkan pelatihan pasukan lokal untuk mengambil alih tugas keamanan menjelang penarikan NATO tahun depan.
"Tiga anggota petugas Pasukan Bantuan Keamanan Internasional (ISAF) tewas ketika seorang individu mengenakan seragam Pasukan Keamanan Nasional Afghanistan menembak mereka di Afghanistan timur hari ini," kata pernyataan ISAF, menambahkan bahwa para pejabat ISAF dan Afghanistan sedang menyelidiki insiden itu.
Sejalan dengan kebijakan NATO, pernyataan itu tidak menjelaskan kebangsaan korban.
Seorang pejabat Afghanistan, berbicara dengan syarat tak disebut namanya, mengatakan kepada AFP bahwa insiden itu terjadi selama sesi pelatihan di provinsi timur Paktia yang dilanda pemberontakan.
Seorang Tentara Nasional Afghanistan (ANA) menembaki tentara AS di kamp pelatihan militer, menewaskan dua di tempat itu juga, katanya. Ketiganya kemudian meninggal akibat luka-lukanya, ia menambahkan.
Penyerang tewas ketika tentara Amerika membalas dengan tembakan, katanya.
Ancaman "serangan orang dalam" telah menjadi begitu serius sehingga tentara asing yang bekerja dengan pasukan Afghanistan secara teratur diawasi oleh apa yang disebut "malaikat pengawas", pasukan yang bertugas memberikan perlindungan dari sekutu mereka.

The last Australian combat troops have left Afghanistan, ending an
eight-year combat mission in Uruzgan Province, the government said
Monday.
The Australians departed from the provincial capital of Tarin Kot on
Sunday, having handed over responsibility to Afghan forces, Australian
officials said. About 400 personnel will remain in Kabul and Kandahar to
advise and assist Afghan forces.
“Australian defense personnel have worked tirelessly alongside forces
from the U.S., Netherlands, France, Singapore, Slovak Republic, and New
Zealand and have made a positive and enduring contribution to Uruzgan,”
said Maj. Gen. Craig Orme, commander of the Australian task force.
Afghan forces have taken control of Multi National Base-Tarin Kot, a
large facility that includes an airstrip and once housed 10,000
personnel.
The commander of international forces in southern Afghanistan, U.S.
Maj. Gen. Paul LaCamera, said Afghan soldiers and police in Uruzgan had
contained the insurgency there in the past year and built on gains made
by the Australians.
“Uruzgan is a testament to the transition process in Afghanistan and shows we are on the right track,” he said.
The Australians had been based in the rugged region of southern
Afghanistan since 2005. Australian special forces were also active in
Uruzgan, where Taliban fighters have continued to wage a low-level
insurgency, chiefly by attacking coalition and government forces with
roadside bombs. Australia has lost 40 troops killed in action, and 261
have been wounded, officials said.
Australian Defence Minister David Johnston said Canberra remains
committed to helping Afghanistan after the end of 2014, when the
NATO-led coalition will withdraw all of its combat troops. A follow-on
mission is likely to remain in the country to train and mentor the
Afghan army and police.
“The achievements we have made in Afghanistan and more specifically
Uruzgan can be directly attributed to the professionalism and dedication
of more than 26,500 Defence personnel deployed over the years,” he
said.
